Our journey from Madrid to Toledo begins. Perched atop a hill and surrounded by the Tagus River, Toledo was once Spain's capital. Despite losing political prominence to Madrid, it remains a religious centre, retaining its medieval charm.
We'll explore the Gothic Cathedral, renowned for its art treasures, including the 'transparente'. Then, we'll head south through the Parque Natural de Despeñaperros into Andalucía. Overnight stay in Córdoba.
Córdoba, once an important Roman city and a major Islamic hub, is famed for La Mezquita, a vast mosque dating back to 784 A.D. Converted into a Catholic church in 1236, it later gained a Renaissance-style nave.
