MOLLS GAP
This morning visit the 16th Century Trinity College to view the medieval manuscript known as The Book of Kells, and St Patrick's Cathedral. The morning ends with a tour of the Guinness Storehouse and a pint of "the black stuff" for those who wish. The afternoon is free to explore the city centre, to perhaps walk along Grafton and O'Connell Streets, cross the River Liffey on the Halfpenny Bridge or find out more about Temple Bar or Dublin Castle. Day 3 — Wicklow Mountains
Leave Dublin this morning and drive west through farming country and small market towns into the heart of Ireland. Visit the 6th Century Clonmacnoise Monastery on the banks of the River Shannon, an ancient place where time appears to stand still, before arriving in Galway city for a walking tour. Overnight stay in Galway.
After breakfast embark on a tour of the wild and rugged Connemara National Park. Pause to learn about Irish traditional instruments at Roundstone Music, pause in the pretty hillside village of Clifden and visit Kylemore Abbey - a beautiful lakeside mansion with a mountainous backdrop that is still home to Irish Benedictine Nuns with a unique tradition dating back 300 years. Overnight stay in Galway.
Travel to a nearby port and board a ferry to Inishmore, the largest of the Arran Islands. Explore the island by local mini-bus, including the 2000 year old coastal hill fort of Dun Aengus. These islands are still largely Gaelic speaking and maintain many traditional customs suited to the harshness of their location, including the famous Arran sweater. They are also home to the TV Show Father Ted! Overnight stay in Galway.
This morning drive into the countryside, stopping at Rathbaun Farm, a traditional Irish working farm. Tour the thatched farm building and have morning coffee with homemade scones and traditional porter cake. Continue for an afternoon visit to Bunratty Castle and Folk Park, Ireland's most complete and authentic medieval castle. Overnight stay in Galway.
Today journey into County Clare and experience the strange lunar landscape of The Burren en route to the edge of the Atlantic. We include admission to the visitors centre so we can fully enjoy the majestic Cliffs of Moher rising directly out of the ocean. Cross the mouth of the broad majestic River Shannon by ferry to arrive in County Kerry. Overnight stay in Killarney.
After breakfast tour the world famous Ring of Kerry. Poets, painters, writers and musicians have all tried to covey the beauty of this area famed for t mountains, lakes and coastal scenery. The afternoon is free for you to enjoy Killarney town, or perhaps to take a short journey on one of the local horse drawn buggies known as Jaunting Cars to visit the magnificent Victorian mansion of Muckross House. Overnight stay in Killarney.
Leave Killarney this morning and drive through the Kerry and Cork countryside to Blarney Castle where those who wish to can climb the tower and bend over backwards and to kiss the famous stone. Continue to the coast and visit the highly emotive village of Cobh / Queenstown. This was the last port of call of RMS Titanic and for thousands of emigrants was the last site they sawof the "Old World" before heading off for the "New Worlds" of the USA and Canada. Overnight stay in Waterford.
This morning visit the home of the famed Waterford Crystal and follow the inland route via the medieval city of Kilkenny. Visit the castle and see some of the best Irish craft and design in the Kilkenny Design Centre. Tonight enjoy a farewell evening of traditional music, singing and Irish fare. Overnight stay in Dublin.
